‘He must be investigated for forgery’ – ADC reports Nafiu Bala to INEC over candidate upload claim

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the alleged forgery and unauthorised use of documents purportedly issued by the commission following claims by a rival faction that it had uploaded the party’s presidential and other candidates to INEC’s nomination portal.

In a statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party dismissed the claim by the faction led by Nafiu Gombe as false and misleading, insisting that only the leadership recognised by INEC has access to the commission’s nomination portal.

According to the ADC, the recognised leadership has already completed the nomination of its candidates in line with the Electoral Act.

The party argued that INEC cannot issue nomination portal access or nomination codes to a leadership it does not recognise, stressing that the commission would not provide two separate access codes to the same political party.

“INEC does not issue nomination portal access or nomination codes to a leadership it does not recognise. Secondly, the Commission will not issue two codes to the same party. Otherwise, every impostor would simply upload names to the portal and proclaim themselves the authentic leadership of a political party. That is plainly not how the law or the Commission’s processes work,” the statement read.

The ADC challenged the rival group to produce evidence showing it successfully accessed and uploaded candidates through INEC’s nomination portal.

It also urged the electoral commission to investigate what it described as the apparent forgery and unauthorised use of documents allegedly originating from INEC, warning that such actions could erode public confidence in the electoral process.

Reaffirming that it has no leadership crisis, the party maintained that INEC recognises only one ADC leadership, which has already uploaded the details of its presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and vice-presidential candidate, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

The party accused unnamed individuals of attempting to create confusion and distract it ahead of the 2027 general election but vowed to remain focused on its campaign.

It also urged party members, supporters, the media and the general public to disregard what it described as misleading claims and rely only on official communications from the party.
