I didn’t go to school, but I have more knowledge than graduates – MC Oluomo
The President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has said that despite not receiving formal education, he possesses more knowledge and practical understanding than many university graduates.
MC Oluomo made the remark while reflecting on his journey from a bus conductor to one of Nigeria’s most influential transport union leaders.
He spoke during the 50th birthday celebration of Islamic singer, Hafsat Adegoke, held in Lagos.
According to him, years of practical experience and hard work shaped his understanding of life and leadership more than classroom education.
“It’s not about being proud. I’ve been spending money since I was 13 years old. I worked as a bus conductor from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. I would go to Danjuma Cinema to watch Indian movies with my own money, and afterwards I would give my mother money for food,” he said.
MC Oluomo explained that he rose through the ranks of the transport union by learning the job and mastering it over the years.
“That’s what I did until I got to this stage. I didn’t enter the NURTW as a stranger. I learned the work, mastered it and got to where I am today,” he stated.
He maintained that although he never attended school, he believes his experience has given him knowledge that surpasses that of many degree holders.
“I didn’t go to school, but the knowledge and understanding I possess are greater than those held by many people with university degrees,” he said.
The transport union leader also cited the academic success of his children as evidence that he values education despite his own background.
He disclosed that his children have become a doctor, a lawyer and an engineer, and are all based in the United States.
“I always tell people that if I am uneducated, glory be to God. My children today are a doctor, a lawyer and an engineer, and they are in America. May God continue to protect our children and grant them long life,” he added.
