Imo now one-party state, our people have decided to re-elect Tinubu in 2027, Says Uzodimma

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, says residents of the state have already resolved to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, citing the administration’s policies and programmes as key drivers of the state’s development.

Uzodimma made the declaration on Friday in Owerri while hosting members of the Presidential Media Tour. The governor, who also chairs the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, said Imo people appreciate the impact of Tinubu’s policies and remain committed to his continued leadership.

“Our people have already decided that they want President Bola Ahmed Tinubu back as the president because without him and his policies and programmes, this environment we are enjoying today would have been very impossible to achieve,” Uzodimma said.

He urged members of the media delegation to engage with residents and visit other APC-controlled states, expressing confidence that governors of the ruling party are making effective use of increased allocations to deliver development.

Uzodimma also defended the removal of fuel subsidy, describing it as a bold decision that significantly improved the financial position of states.

Recalling his early days in office, the governor said Imo received barely enough revenue to meet its obligations before the policy came into effect.

“When I was sworn in on January 15, 2020, after salaries were paid, only about N100 million was left in the state’s account. That was the reality in many states.

“But after May 29, 2023, when President Tinubu assumed office and subsidy was removed, our FAAC allocation rose to over N10.7 billion. That was when I publicly declared that subsidy must be removed because the policy gave states the resources to serve their people better,” he said.

According to Uzodimma, the additional revenue has enabled his administration to execute visible projects and improve the welfare of residents.

The governor further disclosed that the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has increased from less than N400 million monthly in 2020 to nearly N6 billion, while the state’s debt profile has dropped from N287 billion to below N90 billion.

“In 2020, our IGR was less than N400 million monthly. Today, it is close to N6 billion every month. Our debt has reduced from N287 billion to less than N90 billion. The state is now financially stable,” he said.

Uzodimma also highlighted improvements in infrastructure, noting that travel time across the state has been significantly reduced due to ongoing road projects.

On electricity, he said Imo has become self-reliant in power generation and distribution.

“Today, we generate, transmit and distribute electricity in the state capital, including Government House. This is homegrown electricity, and before the end of the year, we will extend it to the local government areas. Imo is ready for business,” he added.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, commended Uzodimma for his leadership and commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Dare also praised the governor’s role in strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that the party now controls 32 states under its leadership.

“I want to thank you for your leadership. Under your leadership and the overall leadership of President Bola Tinubu, the APC now has 32 governors, and we are still counting.

“It is a clear validation that we have a progressive ruling party with performing governors and a president who has a clear vision for Nigeria’s future,” Dare said.
