JAMB shift 2025 Public University admission deadline by 17 days

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for completing admission processes into public universities to November 17, 2025.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Board’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday.

Benjamin recalled that during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, on July 18, 2025, public universities were given until October 31 to conclude admissions. He commended institutions for their commitment to meeting the timeline, which was designed to allow private universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions to complete their own processes before the overall closing date of December 31, 2025.

However, JAMB said it found it necessary to extend the deadline due to emerging issues. “The decision to extend the timeline is anchored on two key considerations,” the statement read.

“First, AVCNU appealed for an extension due to disruptions caused by several factors, including a court order halting the 2025/26 admission list, which was only lifted on October 28.

Second, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the NUC released a list of 229 newly accredited programmes across 37 universities on October 29, and admissions into those programmes are just being scheduled.”

The Board emphasized that the new deadline of November 17, 2025, is final and must be strictly adhered to. “JAMB remains committed to a seamless, transparent, and credible admission process that aligns with national education goals and institutional autonomy,” Benjamin added.

This development reflects JAMB’s efforts to address judicial and administrative delays while ensuring fairness in the admission process, particularly for newly accredited programmes.

Earlier, on September 18, 2025, JAMB had extended the deadline for universities to submit Post-UTME screening scores of underage candidates to October 30, to align with admission timelines for public and private institutions.
