Kaduna South PDP Senator, Sunday Katung defects to APC
The senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Katung, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Katung’s defection was formally announced on Wednesday during plenary at the Senate, where his letter was read by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
In the letter, the lawmaker blamed his decision on the prolonged leadership crisis rocking the PDP, saying the party could no longer guarantee his political future or provide a stable platform for his ambitions.
He said he decided following wide consultations with his constituents, adding that it is only the APC that can offer him the platform to continue serving his people.
He said the PDP had become “fractured” and can no longer meet the aspirations of the voters in his constituency.
He also said “evolving political realities” in Nigeria showed that hope for a secure future for himself and his constituents was with the APC.
With the latest defection, the APC now has 74 senators in the Senate; PDP 27; Labour Party four; APGA two; NNPP one; and SDP one.
