Kebbi Gov moves to set up military base in Bagudo over rising banditry
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has assured residents of communities affected by recent bandit attacks in Bagudo Local Government Area that his administration will establish a military base in the area to strengthen security.
The governor made this known on Saturday during a condolence visit to the District Head of Kaoje, Alhaji Mustapha Usman, following the death of the Village Head of Lafagu and other victims of the recent attacks.
Idris described the attacks as barbaric and deeply disturbing, assuring residents that the state government would work closely with security agencies to flush out bandits terrorising communities in the area.
He said the planned military base would form part of intensified efforts to protect residents and curb the persistent security challenges in Bagudo and its environs.
He said his administration would not relent in its efforts to protect the lives and property of citizens, stressing that every necessary measure would be taken to restore peace and enable displaced residents to return safely to their communities.
“I am not going to relent in ensuring that my people are protected. My government is working hard with the security agencies to ensure that the internally displaced persons return safely to their villages,” the governor said.
Governor Idris also visited some Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, where he sympathised with victims of the attacks and reassured them of the government’s commitment to their safety, welfare and eventual return to their ancestral communities.
He expressed concern over the security situation and disclosed that his administration had concluded arrangements aimed at finding a lasting solution to insecurity in the affected areas and restoring the confidence of residents.
“I am not going to tolerate these barbaric acts. In shaa Allah, the government is doing everything possible to protect the lives of our people. I will continue to support you and ensure that everyone returns safely to their villages,” he added.
He urged the people to remain calm and patient, while cautioning them against taking the law into their own hands.
He called on residents to cooperate fully with security agencies and promptly provide credible information about suspicious persons or activities in their communities.
Responding, the District Head of Kaoje, Alhaji Mustapha Usman Adamu, thanked Governor Idris for the condolence visit and proactiveness towards timely response to issues related to the security situation.
He described the attacks as un-Islamic and inhuman, and thanked him and his entourage for taking the time to visit and commiserate with the affected community.
