The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion on Independence Bridge to allow urgent repair works to be carried out on the bridge.

The Lagos State Ministry of Works disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday morning, noting that the Federal Ministry of Works would commence the repairs.

According to the statement, asphalt works on the bridge are scheduled to begin at night on Friday, October 16, 2026, and continue throughout Saturday, October 17, and Sunday, October 18.

The repair works are expected to run during the day and night on Saturday and Sunday, with completion scheduled for Sunday, October 18, 2026.

“Traffic management plans to help motorists navigate their movement during the repair works on the inbound and outbound lanes of the bridge include partial closure of each section at a time with a lane opened for motorists to access their destinations.”

It urged motorists to plan their movements and use alternative routes to reach their destinations during the repairs.

“Officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be on the ground to manage the movement of vehicles and minimize inconveniences.

“Motorists are implored to remain patient, obey traffic laws, and cooperate fully with the interventions made available,” the statement issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.
