‘My husband did not kill or rape Favour’ – Odogwu Asaaba’s wife

The wife of Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaaba, has come to her husband’s defence amid allegations linked to the death of Favour Agbro.

In a video shared on her husband’s social media page, she denied claims that Ogbonna killed or raped the deceased.

She also revealed that she and their four children had faced online attacks since the controversy surrounding the case began.

According to her, bloggers and other social media users had circulated photographs of her and her children, which she described as an attempt to intimidate her and force her into silence.

She appealed against the attacks on her family, insisting that the allegations against her husband should be handled based on facts rather than social media claims.

“You know when this thing happened, bloggers and other people dug out my pictures and that of my children and were dragging us.

“You people did what you did because you want to shut me up, want to put fear in me or something. I swear, that didn’t happen,” she said.

Ogbonna remains on trial over allegations arising from his encounter with Agbro, whose death has generated widespread public interest and debate.

His wife said she had deliberately refrained from making extensive public comments while following the case, explaining that she wanted to understand the issues before speaking.

“You know since this matter between Odogwu Asaaba and my husband and late Favour Agbro, I’ve been here and not actually been silent, just that I’m trying to follow it the right way,” she said.

She appealed to members of the public to allow the judicial process to run its course, warning against accepting claims circulated on social media as established facts.

“I’ve learnt a lot about this matter before coming up to talk. Social media is not a courtroom. People should bear that in mind,” she said.

The woman, who said she had been married to Ogbonna for eight years and had four children with him, expressed continued support for her husband despite the allegations against him.

“No matter what happened, Odogwu Asaaba is my husband and I stand with him 100 per cent. I’m not going to turn my back on him,” she said.

On the allegation of rape, she was categorical in denying that her husband sexually assaulted Agbro.

“Odogwu Asaaba did not kill anybody. Odogwu Asaaba did not rape Favour. Odogwu Asaaba only had an affair with a girl, the said girl.

“There is no way Odogwu Asaaba raped Favour. He didn’t. Yes, I know my husband. Tell me another thing, but please don’t say he raped,” she said.

She also suggested that there were other circumstances surrounding the case that had not been made public, saying her husband would eventually present his own account.

“He would come back. And when he comes back, he’s to properly tell you people his own part of the story,” she said.

She, however, indicated that she would make further disclosures about the matter, but said she would do so gradually.

“For now there are few things I would be letting out. Let me stop here for now,” she added.

The allegations remain before the court, and Ogbonna’s wife’s claims are her account and do not determine the outcome of the ongoing judicial process.
