Navy seizes 44,000 litres of suspected illegal petroleum products, arrests eight in Rivers
The Nigerian Navy has announced that its operatives in Rivers State intercepted about 44,000 litres of suspected illegally refined petroleum products on Sunday.
The development was made known by the Director of Naval Information, Abiodun Folorunsho, in a statement issued in Abuja.
Folorunsho explained that the operation, which also led to the arrest of eight suspects, was carried out under Operation DELTA SENTINEL by personnel of NNS Pathfinder in the Degema, Ogbogoro and Ogbologo axis.
The Navy spokesperson explained that the naval patrol team, who were acting on credible intelligence, intercepted two wooden boats laden with suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil, AGO.
He noted that though some armed accomplices fled the scene upon sighting the patrol team, the main suspects were apprehended.
Folorunsho stated that the suspects and the recovered products were still in custody, stating that they would soon be handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
