The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Rivers State Command, says it has arrested 30 suspected drug dealers, including three women, within the past four months.

The agency also disclosed that it secured 12 convictions during the period and seized about 14.83 kilograms of illicit drugs.

The State Commander, Bature Dawa, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dagogo Wokoma, at his office in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Dawa said the arrests and seizures were carried out between December 2025 and March 2026, adding that 16 new cases are currently under investigation.

He stated, “About 39 suspected drug peddlers have been arrested, out of which 36 are male, and three are female.

“We also seized about 14.83 kilograms of different kinds of drugs. Also, within this period, just last month, we were able to convict 12 drug peddlers, and 16 new cases were charged in court.”

Dawa explained that the agency, through its Drug Demand Reduction and Drug Supply Control Units, has intensified efforts to curb the spread of illicit drugs in the state and ensure offenders are brought to justice.

He also called on parents and guardians to closely monitor their children, while urging hotel owners and managers to remain vigilant and prevent their facilities from being used for drug-related activities.

The state NDLEA boss advocated the introduction of drug integrity tests in schools and within the National Youth Service Corps scheme as part of measures to discourage drug abuse among young people.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Government has commended the dedication and collaboration of federal government agencies in sustaining a safe and secure environment.

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Dagogo Wokomaa, said the governor, Siminalayi Fubara, appreciates the synergy among federal agencies in promoting his administration’s vision of peace, prosperity, and progress in Rivers State.

He urged residents to remain law-abiding, emphasising that respect for the law is essential for good governance and sustainable development across the state.

The SSG further said Governor Fubara remains committed to initiatives that promote peace and social order, stressing that the administration will continue to support programmes of federal agencies aimed at strengthening security and public safety.

“Our Governor is committed to peace, progress and prosperity in Rivers State. I therefore encourage all residents, especially young people who are often targeted by those involved in drug abuse, to stay away from drugs, crime and reckless driving,” he said.

In a related development, during a courtesy visit by the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Inyang Umoh, Dr Wokoma urged residents to abide by road safety laws and to drive with consideration for other road users.

The FRSC State Commander expressed appreciation to Governor Fubara for the continuous support of the Corps.
