Nigerian Army rescues 19 kidnapped victims, neutralises suspected terrorist in FCT

Troops of the 7 Guards Battalion, Guards Brigade, Nigerian Army, have successfully rescued 19 kidnapped residents and neutralised a suspected terrorist during a coordinated operation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Lieutenant Olawuyi Itunuoluwa, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at the Guards Brigade Headquarters, said the operation took place around Gidan Dogo in Bwari Area Council, following credible intelligence on the location of the kidnappers responsible for recent abductions in the Byazhin area.

The military operation was conducted in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes. During the engagement, troops clashed with the suspects, neutralising one criminal while others fled with gunshot wounds. Security forces recovered one AK-47 and a locally fabricated firearm.

All 19 rescued victims have been evacuated to safety and are receiving medical attention, while troops have returned to their Forward Operating Base and continue patrols to prevent further criminal activities.

Brigadier General Adebisi Onasanya, Commander of the Guards Brigade, commended the troops and security partners for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to protecting residents of Abuja and the FCT.

Mounting insecurity, particularly kidnapping, continues to be a challenge across Nigeria. However, intelligence-driven operations by the Nigerian Army, Air Force, and other security agencies have resulted in multiple rescues and neutralisation of criminal elements in recent years.

This latest operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s ongoing resolve to safeguard lives, restore security, and dismantle terrorist and criminal networks across the country.
