NNPC confirms pipeline explosion in Delta community

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has confirmed an explosion on Wednesday evening near Tebijor, Okpele, and Ikporo communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State.

According to a statement by NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, the incident occurred around 17:50 hours and involved an NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) pipeline.

Preliminary observations suggested a pressure drop consistent with a loss of containment on the pipeline, though the exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation.

“Our priority at this time is the safety of nearby communities and the protection of the environment,” Odeh said.

“Emergency response procedures have been activated, and we are working closely with relevant authorities and community leaders to ensure a coordinated approach to mitigate impact.”

The NNPC assured the public of its commitment to safety and environmental protection, promising further updates as more information becomes available.
