Obi always pressured to address Nigerians while ex-Lagos Governor who rigged himself into presidency hides from camera – Aisha Yesufu

A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Aisha Yesufu, has criticised the recent interview between Channels Television anchor Seun Okinbaloye and the party’s 2027 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing the session as repetitive and uninspiring.

Obi appeared on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme, where he spoke on a range of national issues, including his presidential ambition and the state of the country.

Since the interview aired, several clips have circulated across social media, attracting mixed reactions from Nigerians.

Reacting in a video shared on her X account, Yesufu said she was disappointed by the interview, arguing that Obi was not asked any new or challenging questions.

According to the socio-political activist, there was nothing the former Anambra State governor said during the interview that had not been discussed previously.

“So Mr Peter Obi did an interview yesterday with Seun. I absolutely feel irritated by the whole thing,” she said.

“Usually when Peter Obi grants an interview, there is this excitement about what he is going to say.

“For this particular one, and maybe going forward, it is the feeling of irritation because what are we doing here? It is the same conversation every time. There is nothing he said that has not been talked about.”

Yesufu stated that she had hoped to identify one or two fresh issues from the interview for further discussion but found none.

“I would have picked one or two things from the interview so we could talk about them, but I have been going through it and I have not seen any new questions or questions that we don’t already know the answers to. We wasted our time,” she added.

She further argued that too much attention was being placed on Peter Obi to constantly explain his positions, while President Bola Tinubu was not subjected to similar public scrutiny.

“Again and again, more pressure is being put on Peter Obi for him to be the one coming to talk to the people, but the former Lagos State governor, who rigged himself into the presidency, is not in front of the camera. He is not being judged. Can you ask questions about what we have not heard?” she said.
