The Kebbi State Police Command, working with the military and other security agencies, has foiled a cattle-rustling attack by suspected Lakurawa bandits in Bunza Local Government Area, killing one suspect during a gun battle.

The bandits were said to have invaded Tungan Babu Lada village, where they shot dead a 35-year-old man, Usman Ferungu, and made away with some cattle. Their escape was cut short after a swift response by a joint security team.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the police spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, said the team, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Kangiwa Division, chased the suspects and intercepted them at Garin Mayo Mine.

He said one of the suspects was neutralised during the operation, while others escaped into the bush.

Usman added that efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover the rustled cattle, assuring residents that security patrols had been intensified in the area to prevent further attacks.

” A gun battle ensued during which one of the suspected bandits was neutralized, while four motorcycles believed to have been used by the criminals were recovered”

Police authorities said the operation disrupted the activities of the criminal gang, prevented further attacks, and averted additional loss of lives.

Reaffirming the command’s commitment to public safety, the Kebbi State Police Command said aggressive patrols and intelligence-driven operations would continue across the state in line with the proactive policing strategy of the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Mohammed Hadeija.

The command also urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information, assuring the public of sustained efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of action in Kebbi State.
