In a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, no fewer than 4,000 members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ebonyi State, including the party’s Deputy Chairman, Okechukwu Idenyi, and Secretary, Barr. Solomon Adum, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The defectors were formally received on Saturday during a political rally in Isu Community, Onicha Local Government Area, by the Ebonyi State PDP Chairman, Hon. Chukwuma Igwe.

Welcoming the new members, Igwe described the mass defection as a significant boost to the PDP’s strength in the state, expressing confidence that their experience and political influence would enhance the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.

“We assure the defectors of equal opportunities within the party. We urge you to work collectively with existing members to advance the party’s objectives and provide a credible alternative for the people of Ebonyi in 2027,” Igwe said.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, former NDC Secretary Barr. Solomon Adum said the decision followed wide consultations with party supporters and stakeholders.

“Our decision was driven by our confidence in the PDP’s vision for democratic governance, unity and sustainable development in the state.

“We pledge to work with the leadership of the PDP to expand the party’s grassroots support ahead of future political activities. We are committed to promoting peace, internal democracy and issue-based politics,” Adum stated.

Also addressing the gathering, the PDP candidate for Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency, Felix Igboke, described the PDP as “a moving train” and urged the new members to work towards securing victory for the party in the 2027 general elections.

“PDP is the party that has built sustainability. The 2027 elections are the time to work together to ensure that we win. I welcome all the defectors to the party and I believe we will win come 2027. Ours is a moving train,” Igboke said.

The defectors said their decision to join the PDP was aimed at strengthening the opposition and promoting inclusive governance in Ebonyi State and across Nigeria ahead of the next general elections.
