PDP suffers another blow as Zamfara Lawmaker crosses to APC
Hon. Maharazu Faru, the lawmaker representing Maradun II constituency in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside his ward chairmen.
Faru made the announcement on Tuesday at the APC headquarters in Gusau, citing poor leadership and the absence of development projects in his constituency as reasons for leaving the PDP.
“We are forced to leave the PDP due to inconsistency, poor leadership, and a lack of development projects in our constituency. We are in dire need of projects in our area,” he stated.
The lawmaker lamented that the Maradun II constituency, which includes Gidan Goga, Kaya, and Faru/Magami wards, had been neglected by the current administration, with little to show in terms of infrastructural growth.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Hon. Maharazu Salisu Faru formally communicated his defection, writing: “Having reviewed the recent developments within our party, particularly at the national level, and after assessing the poor leadership in Zamfara State, I wish to announce that, effective today, October 28, 2025, I am leaving the PDP and joining the All Progressives Congress.”
He added that the move followed “extensive consultations” with his constituents, all of whom agreed to defect with him.
Receiving the lawmaker and his supporters, Zamfara State APC Chairman, Tukur Umar Danfulani, welcomed them warmly, describing the defection as another sign of growing trust in the APC.
Danfulani noted that despite not being the ruling party in the state, the APC continues to attract credible and influential figures because of its strong leadership at both state and national levels.
