Petralon Energy names Uduak Equere as Executive Director
Petralon Energy, an indigenous oil exploration and production company, has announced the appointment of Uduak Equere as Executive Director, with effect from January 5, 2026.
The appointment comes on the back of a year of notable operational and commercial progress for the company, during which Petralon strengthened execution across its asset portfolio, improved its financial position, and consolidated its institutional foundations.
The company said these milestones have reinforced its position within Nigeria’s independent oil and gas sector and laid the groundwork for the next phase of growth.
Equere will continue in his role as Chief Commercial Officer of Petralon Energy and as an Executive Director of Petralon 54, a subsidiary of the group, while assuming expanded responsibilities at the group level.
His elevation reflects a track record of leadership and value delivery across commercial development, corporate finance, and operational execution.
Before joining Petralon Energy, Equere built extensive commercial and financial experience across leading energy and investment institutions.
He began his career at Vetiva Capital Management as an Investment Analyst, where he covered energy sector equities, contributed to market perspectives on Nigeria’s oil, gas, and power industries, and regularly appeared on CNBC Africa.
He later worked at Afren Plc, where he gained hands-on experience in large-scale deal execution.
During his time there, he was part of teams that expanded the company’s asset base through major acquisitions, addressed material contingent liabilities, and optimised fiscal outcomes across joint venture assets.
Equere also served at Xodus Group Africa, where he delivered petroleum economic assessments for significant upstream developments.
His work included advisory roles on Africa Finance Corporation-backed transactions involving acquisitions and debt funding across multiple African jurisdictions.
He is a member of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) and completed the Energy Innovation and Emerging Technologies programme at Stanford University’s Centre for Professional Development.
He also recently completed the Accelerated Development Programme at London Business School, further strengthening his readiness for senior strategic leadership.
Equere holds an MBA in Finance from Imperial College Business School, London, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Uyo, where he graduated as the Best Student in his department.
Beyond his corporate responsibilities, he has contributed to industry conversations on energy finance and investment structuring across Africa.
He was a regular contributor on CNBC Africa and was part of the only local research team nominated for the Best Analysts’ Award at the African Investor Awards in 2010.
He has also spoken at major industry platforms, including African Energy Week 2024 in Cape Town.
