Police nab 21-year-old man over alleged defilement of minor in Edo
The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Innocent Emmanuel, over the alleged defilement of an eight-year-old girl in the New Etete area of Benin City.
The command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement, saying the suspect was arrested after the police received a report concerning the alleged sexual assault of the minor.
According to her, the suspect allegedly assaulted the girl while her parents were away from home.
The police said the suspect remains in custody as investigations into the incident continue.
According to the statement, the complainant alleged that the child had previously disclosed repeated sexual harassment by the same suspect.
The statement added that the suspect had been arrested and detained, while the victim was taken to hospital for medical examination.
She said an investigation was ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court.
