Soldiers foil ransom payment, free kidnapped woman in Kebbi

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued a woman who was kidnapped and stopped a planned ransom payment in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The operation was carried out after security personnel received credible intelligence about plans to pay ransom for the victim, who was abducted from her farm last month.

The acting spokesperson for the troops, Lt Col Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday.

Osoba said the troops quickly moved to the location to prevent the ransom transaction from taking place. He added that the terrorists attempted to engage the soldiers after spotting their advance.

The operation reportedly led to the rescue of the kidnapped woman, while the troops took action to disrupt the planned ransom exchange.

According to him, the troops’ superior firepower forced the criminals to retreat in disarray, leaving the hostage behind.

“The engagement forced the criminals to retreat in disarray, abandoning the hostage, who was subsequently secured by our troops,” Osoba said.

He said the victim was found unharmed and had been safely transported to reunite with her family in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.

“Following the rescue, troops conducted a thorough exploitation of the terrorists’ withdrawal route to ensure that the area was fully secured before returning safely to base,” he added.

Osoba further disclosed that troops, in a separate but related operation, conducted routine clearance and dominance patrols across parts of Ngaski Local Government Area.

He said the patrols were successfully completed without incident, describing the operation as part of ongoing efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of movement in the area.

The military spokesman assured residents that Operation FANSAN YAMMA would continue to sustain pressure on terrorists and bandits operating in Kebbi State and other parts of the country.

“We will keep the fire on everywhere the terrorists are. We will dismantle them to secure Kebbi State and Nigeria,” Osoba said.

He urged residents to strengthen cooperation with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence capable of helping troops prevent attacks and disrupt criminal activities.

“We urge members of the public to continue sharing credible information with security agencies. Such intelligence is critical to thwarting the activities of criminal elements and securing our communities,” he said.
