Tension as gunmen storm wedding ceremony in Lafia, kill three
A traditional wedding ceremony turned tragic on Tuesday night after gunmen invaded Akunza, a Migili-speaking residential area of Ashige in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
A youth leader in the community, who confirmed the incident, said the attackers stormed the area during the celebration and opened fire, killing at least three people. He added that several others were injured in the attack.
According to him, women and children were among those who sustained injuries. The victims were rushed to a nearby health facility, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The motive for the attack was not immediately known as of the time of filing this report, while residents have been left in shock following the deadly disruption of what was meant to be a joyful ceremony.
The attack reportedly occurred while the wedding festivities were ongoing, leaving residents in panic and mourners fleeing for safety.
