Tension in Zamfara as bandits kill four residents over alleged refusal to pay levies
At least four residents have been killed on Thursday evening after armed bandits attacked Gwargwaba village in Nahuce District of Bungudu Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
The attack was disclosed in a post shared on X on Saturday by security analyst Bakatsine. According to the report, the assailants, who were heavily armed, invaded the community at about 6:00 p.m. and set several houses on fire.
The four victims were reportedly trapped inside their homes during the attack and died in the blaze.
In addition, the attackers destroyed food supplies, killed and burned villagers’ livestock.
Bakatsine said the assault followed the villagers’ refusal to pay unlawful levies imposed by the bandits.
The rejection reportedly infuriated the attackers and resulted in a violent retaliation.
