Terrorists kill one, abduct over 30 in fresh attack on Kogi community
Suspected terrorists have attacked Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one resident and abducting more than 30 people in a late-night assault that has further heightened insecurity concerns in the region.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 2:25 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, when armed men invaded the community and operated for several minutes without resistance.
During the raid, one person was confirmed killed, while another sustained injuries. Among those abducted were two residents of the community—a man and a woman—alongside several passengers travelling in a commercial bus intercepted by the gunmen.
Sources said the attackers blocked the vehicle while it was passing through the area and whisked away all occupants after taking control of the scene.
Residents described the incident as traumatic, noting that the gunmen moved freely through the community before escaping with the victims to an unknown destination.
The latest attack has deepened fears among residents over worsening insecurity in Kogi State, particularly along routes linking communities with border areas adjoining Kwara State.
Security authorities are yet to issue a detailed statement as of the time of filing this report.
