Three lawmakers dump APC for ADC, PRP

Three members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress to the African Democratic Congress and the Peoples Redemption Party.

The defections were announced during plenary, barely 24 hours after the National Assembly resumed from its Sallah recess.

The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, read the lawmakers’ letters on the floor of the chamber.

Among those who left the APC was Rabilu Bala, representing Jama’are/Itas-Gadau Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, who defected to the PRP.

In his letter, Bala cited persistent internal disagreements within the APC and said his decision was motivated by the need to pursue a political platform he believes would better serve the interests of his constituents.

Also announcing his departure from the ruling party was Abubakar Zango, representing Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency of Adamawa State, who joined the ADC.

Zango said his decision was informed by his conscience and what he described as the broader national interest, while pledging to continue providing effective representation for his constituents.

Similarly, Abdullahi El-Rasheed, representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency of Gombe State, formally resigned from the APC and joined the ADC.

The latest defections add to the growing wave of political realignments across party lines ahead of the 2027 general elections, with lawmakers and political stakeholders continuing to reposition themselves following the conclusion of party primaries.
