Tinubu, associates working to manipulate 2027 poll, latest plan is to use EFCC against Atiku — US Lobbying Firm alleges

Von Batten-Montague-York, a United States-based lobbying firm working with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has accused President Bola Tinubu and his associates of allegedly attempting to manipulate Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.

The firm made the allegation in a statement shared on social media, claiming it had raised concerns with members of the administration of US President Donald Trump and the US Congress over what it described as attempts to undermine opposition politicians ahead of the election.

According to the lobbying firm, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigerian judiciary were allegedly being used to place pressure on opposition candidates.

It also accused the Tinubu administration of allegedly attempting to deploy law-enforcement agencies against political opponents.

The firm specifically cited a petition by an individual linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest Atiku within 14 days.

Von Batten-Montague-York described the development as what it considered another attempt to remove a major opposition contender from the 2027 presidential race.

The firm said it planned to brief the US State Department and Congress on the development, arguing that the United States has an interest in ensuring that Nigeria conducts a free, fair and credible election.

It also called for individuals and organisations it accused of attempting to undermine the electoral process to be held accountable.

The allegations by Von Batten-Montague-York have not been independently established. Claims against President Tinubu, INEC, the judiciary and the EFCC remain allegations, and no evidence establishing the alleged coordinated effort was provided in the statement.

The development comes amid growing political tensions among Nigeria’s major political blocs as parties and opposition figures position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
