Tinubu donates ₦25m to each SPAR fire victim in Calabar
The relief fund was presented to the Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu during her visit to Calabar.
President Bola Tinubu has donated ₦500 million to victims of the fire incident that destroyed several shops at the SPAR Shopping Mall in Calabar, Cross River State.
The donation, which amounts to ₦25 million for each beneficiary, is intended to support the affected business owners as they recover from the losses suffered in the devastating incident.
The relief fund was presented to the Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu during her visit to Calabar.
The early-morning fire, which occurred about two weeks ago, reportedly gutted parts of the shopping complex, destroying more than 18 shops and leaving several traders with significant losses.
The incident triggered panic in the state capital as residents and other members of the public gathered around the shopping complex while efforts were made to contain the blaze.
SPAR Shopping Mall, a major retail outlet in Calabar, is located around the Watt Market area, close to Bogobiri, a predominantly Hausa-Fulani community in the city.
The outlet commenced operations in Calabar in 2012 and has remained a notable commercial centre in the state capital.
The ₦500 million intervention is expected to provide financial relief to the affected traders and support their efforts to rebuild their businesses following the fire.
