Tinubu’s FBI records are not evidence of criminal history, it won’t be released – Reno Omokri

Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has explained why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not released records reportedly held by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), arguing that the documents may contain sensitive personal information.

Omokri spoke on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, where he dismissed speculation surrounding the reported FBI records and rejected suggestions that their existence indicated that Tinubu had a criminal history.

“The President has no criminal record,” Omokri said.

According to him, having records with the FBI does not automatically mean that an individual has committed a crime.

“These are FBI records which everybody has. I have an FBI record. You have an FBI record,” he said.

Omokri argued that the records could contain sensitive personal information that should not necessarily be made public.

To illustrate his argument, he referred to a previous controversy involving Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over an allegation concerning the paternity of a child.

Omokri recalled that the father of the woman involved had reportedly claimed to possess documents capable of disproving the allegation but was unwilling to release them publicly because they allegedly contained DNA information.

“One of the things the father said is that, ‘Look, I’ve got documents here that can prove that he’s not the father of that girl, but I cannot release those documents to you because they contain DNA records,’” Omokri said.

He said the concern was that making such information public could expose sensitive genetic data to potential misuse.

Using the example, the ambassador-designate argued that a similar consideration could apply to the FBI records being demanded from Tinubu.

“That is why the President does not want to release these FBI records, because the FBI records, they contain your DNA records. They contain your blood,” he said.

Omokri also dismissed speculation surrounding Tinubu’s age, insisting that the age officially declared by the President represents his actual age.

“I mean, the President’s true age is his declared age,” he said.

The comments come amid continued public interest in records reportedly held by US authorities concerning Tinubu and renewed calls from some Nigerians and opposition figures for greater disclosure about the President’s past.

Omokri, however, maintained that the existence of FBI records should not, on its own, be interpreted as evidence of criminal conduct.

He reiterated that Tinubu has no criminal record and defended the President’s decision not to make the reported documents public, citing what he described as the sensitive nature of the information they may contain.
