Tributes pour in as Federal High Court mourns Justice Yunusa

The Federal High Court has announced the passing of Hon. Justice Mohammed Nasir Yunusa of the Kano Judicial Division.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Information of the Federal High Court, Dr. Catherine Oby Christopher, the court disclosed that Justice Yunusa died on May 21, 2026, after a brief illness.

According to the statement, the respected jurist passed away at the State Medical Centre in Kano and was subsequently laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.

The court described Justice Yunusa as a distinguished judge who served the judiciary with dedication, integrity and an unwavering commitment to the administration of justice.

> “Hon. Justice M. N. Yunusa was a distinguished jurist who served with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the administration of justice. His immense contributions to the Bench and the legal profession will be fondly remembered and greatly cherished by his colleagues, members of the outer Bar, court staff, and all who had the privilege of working with him,” the statement read.

The Chief Judge, judges, management and staff of the Federal High Court expressed deep sorrow over his passing and extended their condolences to his family.

The court prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, while also asking God to give his family the strength to bear the loss.

Justice Yunusa’s death has been described as a significant loss to the Nigerian judiciary and legal profession, where he was widely respected for his service and commitment to justice.
