Tributes pour in as Festac DPO Matilda Ngbaronye dies in Lagos
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Festac Police Station, Lagos, Matilda Ngbaronye, has passed away.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, Ngbaronye died on Friday, October 24, 2025, after undergoing surgery at Mayriamville Medical Centre in Bode Thomas, Surulere.
Adebisi described the late officer as an upright, disciplined, and professional policewoman who served with exceptional integrity throughout her career.
The spokesperson, however, did not disclose the nature of the illness that led to the surgery.
“Until her passing, she was known for her diligence, discipline, and commitment to duty.”
“Her friendly disposition and humane approach to policing greatly helped to bridge the gap between the Police and the public she dutifully served.”
“At no time was she found wanting in the discharge of her responsibilities,” the statement read.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, has reportedly reached out to Ngbaronye’s husband and elder brother, who is a priest, to convey the Command’s condolences and offer support to the grieving family.

The statement added that burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
