World Cup Playoffs: Super Eagles training resumes after temporary standoff over bonuses
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to return to training following a brief boycott over unpaid allowances.
On Tuesday, players and officials skipped their scheduled evening session, citing outstanding payments owed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 World Cup playoff.
By Wednesday, Promise Efoghe, the team’s media officer, confirmed that the issues had been “resolved,” with training resuming at 5 pm. The specific details of the agreement between the players and NFF were not disclosed.
Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong also tweeted that the matters had been addressed, and the team remained focused on upcoming matches.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to play Gabon in one of the semi-finals for the 2026 African World Cup playoffs on Thursday.
The winner will face either Congo DR or Cameroon in the final to secure Africa’s sole intercontinental playoff slot.
