Nollywood Actress Aunty Ajara is dead
Ajara Lasisi, the Nigerian actress widely known as Aunty Ajara in the Yoruba film industry, has died.
She passed away in the early hours of Thursday, according to confirmation from her family.
The sad news was announced by her brother, Ridwan Lasisi, through an emotional video message shared with the public.
In the message, Ridwan expressed deep appreciation on behalf of the family, thanking colleagues in the film industry and well-wishers for the love, prayers and support shown since the news of her death became public.
He also made a specific plea to the public, asking that the stream of financial assistance sent for her medical care be halted.
“Good morning to you all. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am a brother to Ajara. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,” he said.
“All the families, we are using this period to appreciate you all. We appreciate the president and all industry members.
“We also use this opportunity to appeal to those sending money not to send it anymore. The one we are contributing for her sake is no more. Thank you so much. We do not want you to send money into that account again.”
The actress’ health struggles became public knowledge last week after a public appeal for support was shared by her colleague Ronke Oshodi-Oke.
Oshodi-Oke had revealed that Lasisi was hospitalized in critical condition, relying on an oxygen machine, and that her health was deteriorating despite extensive medical care and substantial financial cost.
Aunty Ajara was celebrated for her compelling and often maternal roles in terrestrial-themed stories. She graced the screen in numerous popular films, including ‘Gingerrr’, ‘Queen Lateefah’, and ‘Isiti’.
Last year, the actress shared a personal tragedy, revealing that she had once lost a child.
