10 things to know about late Nollywood actor, Alex Ekubo
Alexx Ekubo was a Nigerian actor, entertainer, model and humanitarian widely known for his roles in Nollywood romantic comedies and drama films.
Over the years, he built a strong reputation in the Nigerian movie industry with appearances in more than 100 films and television productions before his reported death on May 12, 2026.
Here are 10 things to know about the late Nollywood star.
1. Alexx Ekubo was born on April 10, 1986, and hailed from Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State in south-eastern Nigeria.
Despite growing up in different parts of the country, he remained proud of his Igbo roots and often identified strongly with his cultural background.
2. Before finding fame in entertainment, Ekubo pursued an academic career in Law at the University of Calabar, Cross River State.
He also attended Federal Government College, Daura, in Katsina State, giving him exposure to different cultures and regions across Nigeria.
3. Alexx Ekubo became widely known after emerging as the first runner-up at the 2010 Mr Nigeria pageant.
His appearance and confidence during the competition opened doors for him in modelling, acting and entertainment, helping him gain attention in the media and Nollywood circles.
4. Although he had earlier featured in movies, Ekubo gained massive recognition after starring in the Nollywood blockbuster Weekend Getaway.
