2027: ADC uploads Atiku, Amaechi’s details to INEC portal

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally uploaded the names and personal particulars of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal ahead of the 2027 general election.

The development was announced on Tuesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement shared via his verified X account.

According to Abdullahi, the submission represents another major milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

“We are pleased to announce that we have successfully uploaded the names and particulars of the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar (GCON), and our vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi (CON), to the nomination portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“This marks another important step in our preparations for the 2027 general election and our commitment to offer Nigerians a credible alternative built on competence, unity and national renewal,” he stated.

The upload fulfils one of INEC’s mandatory requirements, allowing political parties to formally submit the details of their nominated candidates in line with the commission’s timetable for the 2027 elections.

Atiku emerged as the ADC’s presidential candidate after defeating former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen during the party’s presidential primary held in May.

Following the primary, Amaechi accepted his nomination as Atiku’s running mate, completing the party’s presidential ticket.

The ADC has continued to project itself as a major opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general election, with Atiku seeking another bid for Nigeria’s presidency after contesting under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 and 2023 elections.

Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State and immediate past Minister of Transportation, previously contested the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2023 elections before leaving the ruling party to join the ADC.

The party has consistently maintained that it intends to present what it describes as a credible alternative to the administration of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
