2027: APC uploads 13 governorship candidates to INEC portal

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections, submitting the nomination details of 13 governorship candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the August 8 deadline.

Party sources disclosed that the candidates’ particulars have already been processed and uploaded through INEC’s Candidate Nomination Portal, while documentation for the remaining governorship candidates is being finalised.

According to a senior APC official, the party is confident it will complete the submission of all 28 governorship candidates and their running mates before the electoral commission’s deadline.

Among those whose nominations have reportedly been uploaded are Lagos State Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Ogun State Senator Solomon Adeola, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, Nasarawa State Senator Ahmed Wadada, Kwara State Speaker Yakubu Danladi, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, Adamawa State’s Ahmed Galadima and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

The source explained that the party’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) team has been overseeing the upload process while ensuring that all submitted documents comply with INEC’s requirements.

However, the APC is facing delays in uploading candidates for State Houses of Assembly due to technical issues affecting the INEC nomination portal.

Despite the challenge, the party expressed optimism that the glitches would soon be resolved.

“Our ICT team has already scanned and prepared all the required documents for immediate upload once the issues with the portal are resolved,” the official said.

The APC maintained that its preparations for the elections remain on course, despite concerns expressed by some aspirants and party stakeholders following the outcome of its governorship primaries.

Reacting to reports of discontent within the party, APC National Publicity Director Bala Ibrahim said the party’s reconciliation committee had commenced engagements with aggrieved members to address their grievances.

“As for the disaffection arising from the emergence of some candidates, the reconciliation committee is already working,” Ibrahim said.

“We are hopeful that, at the end of the process, all grievances will be resolved and everyone will unite to move the party forward.”

He urged party members and candidates to remain focused on promoting the APC’s programmes and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda ahead of the campaigns.

INEC opened its nomination portal for governorship and State House of Assembly candidates on July 18 and fixed August 8 as the deadline for submissions.

Under the commission’s timetable, the personal particulars of all governorship and State Assembly candidates will be published on August 29 for public scrutiny, while the deadline for withdrawal or substitution of candidates is September 19.

The latest development follows the APC’s earlier announcement that it had successfully uploaded all its presidential and National Assembly candidates to the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal.

The exercise covered 471 candidates, including President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as the party’s presidential ticket, alongside Senate and House of Representatives candidates.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described the achievement as a significant milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.

He said the party’s attention would now shift to mobilisation, campaign activities and securing victory at the polls.

INEC had earlier extended the deadline for the submission of presidential and National Assembly candidates after appeals from political parties through the Inter-Party Advisory Council, allowing parties additional time to complete the nomination process.
