South-East Govs agree to support Tinubu in 2027: Uzodimma

Imo State Governor and Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has disclosed that the five governors of the South-East have resolved to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, citing the Federal Government’s developmental projects and interventions across the region.

Uzodimma made the announcement in Owerri during a meeting with traditional rulers and members of the Imo State Elders Council.

According to him, despite belonging to different political parties, the governors agreed that continued collaboration with the Tinubu administration is in the best interest of the South-East.

“We, the five governors of the South-East, have reviewed all options and decided that we will work with President Bola Tinubu because we want to be part of the Project Nigeria,” Uzodimma said.

He added that the governors would soon pay a joint courtesy visit to President Tinubu to further strengthen their partnership with the Federal Government.

The governor urged politicians to avoid using Igbo platforms to spread what he described as propaganda, insisting that the people of the South-East would continue to support leaders based on performance rather than political sentiment.

Uzodimma attributed the governors’ decision to several federal projects and policies executed in the region, including the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt–Aba rail line, and the approval for the reconstruction of the Eastern Rail Corridor from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri.

He also listed the ongoing construction of access roads to the Second Niger Bridge, the Otuocha–Anam–Abaji Road, and the Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube/Okigwe Junction Road as evidence of the Federal Government’s commitment to the South-East.

According to him, the region has also benefited from increased federal allocations to states, the student loan programme, security initiatives and ongoing fiscal reforms.

“The South-East has decided. Our people judge governments by performance and not by political sentiments. The evidence is on the ground,” he stated.

On state matters, Uzodimma called on members of the Imo State Elders Council and traditional rulers to support the implementation of the state’s Charter of Equity, describing it as a framework designed to promote fairness, justice and political stability through the rotation of political offices.

“The Charter of Equity is real, and I need your mandate to implement it because that is what will bring lasting peace to Imo State,” he said.

The governor maintained that his successor should emerge in line with the Charter of Equity and possess the integrity and commitment required to sustain the achievements of his administration.

He also vowed to defend the Charter of Equity against attempts to undermine it for political interests.

Uzodimma further advocated increased investment in skills acquisition and vocational education, describing them as essential tools for reducing unemployment, tackling crime and driving sustainable economic growth in Imo State.
