2027: Dan ‘Iya emerges ADC governorship candidate in Sokoto
Former Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Manir Dan ‘Iya, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dan ‘Iya, who served as deputy governor under former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal between 2018 and 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was announced as the ADC flag bearer in a statement issued on Friday by Aminu Abubakar, his former spokesman.
According to the statement, his emergence reflects a renewed commitment to leadership anchored on development, unity, and service delivery in Sokoto State.
The former deputy governor expressed appreciation to party leaders, stakeholders, youths, women groups, and supporters for their backing, describing the support as a collective push for purposeful governance.
“I sincerely thank His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, party leaders, stakeholders, youths, women, and supporters for their unwavering support. Together, we shall continue to work for the unity, stability and progress of Sokoto State,” he said.
Dan ‘Iya also commended Tambuwal for his guidance and continued political support, noting that consultations with elders and political associates played a key role in his emergence.
He added that his candidacy represents the aspiration of the people for inclusive and people-oriented leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
With his emergence, the ADC is expected to intensify its political mobilization in Sokoto State as parties begin early preparations for what is shaping up to be a competitive electoral season.
