Tambuwal withdraws from Sokoto South Senatorial race as ADC unveils 2027 ticket holders in State
Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has withdrawn from the 2027 Sokoto South Senatorial race, stepping down from his reelection bid ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
Tambuwal, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a close ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, is said to have taken the decision as part of ongoing political realignments within the opposition ahead of 2027.
His withdrawal comes as the ADC in Sokoto State released a list of its candidates across various elective positions for the 2027 general elections, signalling early consolidation of the party’s structure in the state.
Among the candidates announced are gubernatorial and legislative aspirants positioned to fly the party’s flag across senatorial districts and federal constituencies.
ADC Sokoto State 2027 Candidates List:
Governor: H.E Manir Dan Iya
Senator, Sokoto South: Amb. Faruk Malami Yabo
Senator, Sokoto Central: Mani Maishinko Katami
Binji/Silame: Mustapha Binjee
Gada/Goronyo: Comr. Bashir Gorau
Kebbe/Tambuwal: Alhaji Maina
Shagari/Yabo: Umar Yusuf Yabo (Danmajen Yabo)
Sokoto South/Sokoto North: Faruku S. Fada
Hudu/Tangaza: Ibrahim Garba Wakaso
Isa/Sabon Birni: Hon. Shuaibu Gwanda Gobir
Kware/Wamakko: Gaddafi Mahe Wamakko
Rabah/Wurno: Bashir Gidado
The announcement reflects early positioning by the ADC as political parties intensify preparations for primaries and candidate selections ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political observers say Tambuwal’s withdrawal from the senatorial race may reshape dynamics within Sokoto politics, particularly within the ADC, where alignments among party leaders and former officeholders continue to evolve.
The development is expected to further heighten political activity in Sokoto State as opposition parties seek to consolidate their influence ahead of the next electoral cycle.
