2027: ‘I will only join party offering Presidential, VP ticket’, says Kwankwaso
The national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said he will only align with another political party ahead of the 2027 general elections if he is offered either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot.
Kwankwaso made this known while speaking at a Kwankwasiyya meeting held at his residence on Miller Road in Kano.
He addressed supporters on the ongoing political movements and talks among politicians as preparations begin for the next general elections.
According to him, any decision to work with another party would depend on clear terms that recognise his political standing and leadership role, stressing that he would not accept anything less than the top positions on the ballot.
“At the national level, we are looking for a political party to align with,” he said. “But it must be a party that will offer me either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot.”
His comments come amid speculations over a possible defection of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the NNPP to the All Progressives Congress.
Reacting to the speculation, Kwankwaso dismissed the reports, describing them as unrealistic.

“That is nothing but a dream,” he said.
The former Kano State governor also criticised the style of politics under President Bola Tinubu, arguing that numerical strength within a party does not necessarily translate to electoral success.
According to him, having a large number of governors on the platform of the APC does not guarantee victory at the polls, insisting that credibility, popular support, and performance remain key determinants of electoral outcomes.
Very Nigerian reports that Kwankwaso’s remarks have further fuelled political discussions over possible alliances and realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
