2027: Kwankwaso ally Uche Odunzeh dumps NNPP for ADC in Imo
Uche Odunzeh, a former governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in Imo State and ally of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is set to defect to the African Democratic Congress.
The planned move comes as political activities in Imo begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and key figures already repositioning.
Odunzeh is said to command support in parts of the state, particularly in the Orlu zone, where he gained notable traction during the last governorship race.
A senior ADC official in Imo State, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the development to Vanguard in Abuja on Thursday.
“Odunzeh is a politician with experience, integrity, and a strong support base. His entry will reinvigorate our structure and enhance our chances in future elections,” the source said.
Odunzeh contested the 2023 governorship election under the NNPP. His expected defection could be followed by some of his supporters, a development that may affect alignments within Imo State.
He has not issued a public statement on the move. However, a formal reception is being planned, according to party sources, with party leaders and stakeholders expected to attend.
The ADC has, in recent months, received new entrants in different parts of the country as early positioning continues ahead of the next electoral cycle.
