2027: Maituta gains momentum as INEC lists him for Zamfara Central
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded the name of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate, Dr Sanusi Bala Maituta, on its portal ahead of the 2027 Zamfara Central Senatorial District election.
The development formally places Maituta among the candidates listed for the senatorial contest as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
Maituta, a politician and philanthropist, has been campaigning for the Zamfara Central seat and has continued to gain support from various groups across the district.
His supporters say he has received endorsements from political stakeholders, youths and elders within the senatorial district.
In May, Maituta unveiled what he described as a comprehensive policy blueprint for Zamfara Central ahead of the 2027 elections.
Tagged the “2027 Policy Agenda and Strategic Development Blueprint,” the document is anchored on what Maituta described as Capacity, Experience, Exposure and Wisdom (C.E.E.W.).
According to him, the blueprint is aimed at building a “secure, prosperous, educated and economically empowered Zamfara Central” where residents can access opportunities and enjoy effective representation.
The agenda identifies security, education, youth empowerment, economic development, social welfare and grassroots infrastructure as major areas of focus.
On security, Maituta pledged to advocate stronger Federal Government intervention against banditry and kidnapping in Zamfara State.
He also proposed legislation aimed at strengthening security agencies and promoting community-based intelligence systems to complement existing security efforts.
In education, the PDP candidate promised expanded scholarship opportunities, improved school infrastructure, vocational training programmes, stronger support for girl-child education and increased investment in teacher development.
Maituta has also been associated with humanitarian interventions in Zamfara, particularly in education, infrastructure, youth empowerment and social welfare.
His supporters argue that his philanthropic activities and community interventions have helped to strengthen his profile among residents of Zamfara Central ahead of the 2027 election.
With his name now appearing on the INEC portal, Maituta’s candidacy is set to form part of the wider contest for the Zamfara Central senatorial seat in the 2027 elections.
