‘New Masquerade’ star Davis ‘Clarus’ Offor is dead
The Nigerian film and television industry is in mourning after the death of veteran actor Davis Offor, best remembered for his role as Clarus in the classic sitcom The New Masquerade.
Fellow actor Tony Akposheri, who played Zacky in the show, confirmed the news.
Sharing his grief on Facebook, Akposheri described his shock and sadness, recalling that Offor was lively and hopeful when they last met at the start of the New Year.
Offor’s work on The New Masquerade left a lasting mark on Nigerian television, shaping an era that many fans still cherish.
“Today, my heart is heavy. Davis Offor, fondly known as Clarus from New Masquerade, is gone,” he wrote.
“We crossed into the New Year together, laughing, talking, sharing memories, and speaking hopefully about the days ahead. None of us knew that time was already counting differently for you.”
Akposheri described the late actor as more than just a colleague, highlighting his warmth, humour, and vibrant personality.
“You were more than a familiar face on screen. You were a friend, a brother, a man with warmth, humour, and a presence that could light up any space,” he added.
He noted that Offor’s sudden death has left a painful void, making it difficult to come to terms with the loss of someone he had spoken with only recently.
“It is hard to believe that the voice I heard not long ago is now a memory. Hard to accept that someone so full of life can suddenly become a story we tell,” he said.
Davis Offor rose to prominence through The New Masquerade, a beloved Nigerian sitcom that captivated audiences with its humour and memorable characters, including the boastful and comedic Clarus.
His death marks the loss of one of the familiar faces of early Nigerian television, remembered for bringing laughter to countless homes across the country.
