Bauchi PDP suspends talks on defection to APC, Gov Bala eyes other options

The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed its withdrawal from ongoing discussions that could have led to a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the party will now explore other political alternatives.

The State Chairman of the PDP, Sama’ila Burga, disclosed this during a press briefing at the party secretariat in Bauchi on Saturday.

According to him, the decision followed the inability of both parties to reach consensus on key conditions during the negotiation process.

He explained that the PDP entered the talks in good faith but no agreement could be reached.

> “We entered the discussions in good faith and with an open mind, but we were unable to reach a common ground,” Burga said.

Consultation with Stakeholders

Burga noted that the party carried out extensive consultations involving stakeholders across different levels, including members of the National Assembly, the State House of Assembly, and local government party leaders, before arriving at the decision to suspend the talks.

He said the major setback was the failure of the APC to accept certain terms presented during the negotiations, describing the disagreement as fundamental.

PDP to Explore Other Options

The PDP chairman stressed that the party remains committed to political decisions that serve the interest of Bauchi people, adding that alternative political pathways are now being considered.

He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to good governance and unity under the leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed.

Burga also assured that the party is mindful of electoral timelines and will take all necessary steps to remain politically prepared ahead of future elections.

The development signals a pause in realignment talks and reinforces the PDP’s current focus on internal consolidation rather than immediate party switching.
