‘I’m changing my birth date’ – Peter Psquare declares

Nigerian music star and former member of the defunct P-Square duo, Peter Okoye, has triggered reactions on social media after revealing plans to change his birthday date.

The singer, popularly known as Mr P, made the announcement in a brief post shared on Monday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, simply stating, “I am officially changing my birthday date.”

The unexpected declaration has left fans and followers wondering about the reason behind the move, as he did not offer any further explanation at the time of this report.

Peter Okoye has remained a notable figure in Nigeria’s entertainment scene, not only for his music career but also for the widely reported family disputes involving the Okoye brothers.

Peter Okoye rose to fame as one half of P-Square, the award-winning music duo he formed with his twin brother, Paul Okoye (Rudeboy).

The group dominated African pop music in the 2000s and early 2010s with several hits before internal disagreements led to their split.

The first major breakdown in the group became public around 2015, largely centred on management disputes involving their elder brother, Jude Okoye, who handled their business affairs.

Issues around royalties, creative control, and family interference eventually deepened the rift.

By 2017, the group officially disbanded, with both brothers pursuing solo careers under the names Mr P and Rudeboy, respectively.

However, after years of separation, the twins reconciled in November 2021, an emotional reunion that thrilled fans across Africa and beyond.

Their reconciliation was marked by joint appearances, performances, and the release of new music, although the renewed partnership struggled to reach the commercial heights of their earlier years.

Despite the reunion, underlying tensions reportedly resurfaced later, with disagreements over financial transparency, royalty management, and corporate structures linked to their music catalogue.

Peter later alleged irregularities involving their former management setup, leading to renewed public exchanges and legal proceedings involving members of the Okoye family. The situation further complicated public perception of the once-celebrated music partnership.
