Peter Okoye admits receiving over $800,000 Psquare royalties without sharing with Jude

Singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has told the Federal High Court in Lagos that he received more than $800,000 in music royalties from the French copyright organisation, SACEM, without sharing the proceeds with his elder brother, Jude Okoye.

Peter made the disclosure while testifying virtually during cross-examination by defence counsel, Clement Onwuewunor, SAN.

According to the singer, the money was intended for the performing artists — himself and his twin brother, Paul Okoye — and was not meant for Jude.

Peter also maintained that Jude had no direct employment contract with Psquare and was not a member of the music group.

The testimony forms part of the ongoing trial of Jude Okoye and his company, Northside Music Limited, over a seven-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission involving alleged fraud of N1.3 billion and $1 million.

Jude has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

During cross-examination, Peter confirmed that he received Psquare royalty reports covering the period from 2016 to 2022 from Jude after requests were made in connection with potential buyers of the group’s music catalogue.

Peter acknowledged that Jude directed several of Psquare’s music videos but maintained that the group’s songs were composed and produced by him and Paul.

He further maintained that Jude was not a member of Psquare and had no contractual employment relationship with the group.

The evidence centred on the management and distribution of Psquare’s music royalties and the roles played by the brothers in the group’s music business.

After the proceedings, the presiding judge, Justice Alexander Owoeye, adjourned the case until December 8 and 9, 2026, for continuation of the trial.
