Why Edun, Dangiwa left Tinubu’s cabinet – FG speaks

The Presidency has clarified that the recent exit of two cabinet members was voluntary, stating that Wale Edun and Ahmed Musa Dangiwa resigned their positions and were not sacked.

In a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, it was disclosed that Edun, who served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, stepped down on health grounds.

The former minister, who turned 70 on Monday, reportedly submitted his resignation letter on his birthday, thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve.

“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Edun wrote, adding that Nigeria had become “stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected” under Tinubu’s leadership.

He also paid a valedictory visit to the President at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, where both men held a private meeting before Edun formally exited the cabinet to focus on his private business interests.

In a similar development, Dangiwa, the former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, also tendered his resignation, expressing appreciation to the President for the chance to serve in the Federal Executive Council.

The Presidency commended both men for what it described as their dedication and contributions to the administration’s economic reform agenda, wishing them success in their future pursuits.

Following the development, the President has tasked the new Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, with building on ongoing reforms and driving fiscal policies with renewed focus and discipline.

Meanwhile, a new ministerial nominee for the Housing Ministry, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, is expected to be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation in the coming days.

Discovererngr.com reports that the clarification from the Presidency comes amid earlier reports suggesting that the two ministers were removed from office as part of a cabinet reshuffle.
