Opeyemi Agbaje gets Senate confirmation as new PenCom Chairman
The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Mr. Opeyemi Agbaje as the new Chairman of the National Pension Commission (PenCom).
Agbaje’s confirmation, along with that of other National Commissioners of the agency, was finalized during plenary in Abuja on Tuesday.
The approval followed the adoption of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service’s report, presented by its Chairman, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, after screening the nominees submitted by President Bola Tinubu.
Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, who presided over the proceedings, read out the names of Agbaje and other newly confirmed commissioners, who will serve on the reconstituted PenCom board.
Other confirmed commissioners include:
Hon. Hafiz Mohammed Kawu, Commissioner (Technical) representing the North West
Samuel Chigizie Nwandu, Commissioner (Inspectorate) representing the South-East
Charles Efe Sylvester Emukowate, Commissioner (Finance) representing the South-South
Bello Abubakar Malabu, Commissioner (Administration) representing the North-East
Agbaje, a banker and lawyer, was previously Chief Executive Officer of RTC Advisory Ltd and served as chairman of the Ogun State Security Trust Funds.
A seasoned policy analyst, Agbaje is also a notable newspaper columnist and television presenter, hosting the programme The Policy Council. He is the author of several books and serves as a faculty member at the Lagos Business School.
