BREAKING: Gunmen attack Gov Soludo’s CoS convoy, two policemen feared dead
Suspected hoodlums have attacked the convoy of the Chief of Staff to the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Ben Nwankwo, along the Amansea–Ufuma Road, leaving two policemen feared dead.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday night, reportedly left Dr. Nwankwo unharmed as he escaped the ambush unscathed.
Following the incident, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to police formations and tactical units across the state to identify and arrest those responsible.
Orutugu gave the directive during an emergency security meeting at the State Police Command Headquarters, where he condemned the attack as a direct assault on state authority.
He ordered immediate action, insisting that the perpetrators must be brought to justice.
The police commissioner warned that criminal elements would no longer be allowed to operate under the cover of darkness to carry out violent attacks in the state.
He also raised concerns over emerging criminal tactics, noting that intelligence reports suggest some attackers now disguise themselves in police and military uniforms to evade detection.
Orutugu urged residents to remain vigilant, especially when travelling along vulnerable routes, and specifically cautioned commuters using the Amansea–Ufuma Road, describing it as an isolated and increasingly dangerous corridor.
He assured the public that intelligence-led operations had already commenced and expressed confidence that the attackers would be apprehended within the 48-hour deadline.
