I didn’t join APC because of deep seaport — Gov. Eno

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has clarified that his decision to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was not influenced by the Ibom Deep Seaport project.

Eno, who joined the APC last year, made the clarification during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, where he also provided updates on the status of the deep seaport project.

He explained that while the project was part of broader development discussions, it was not the reason for his political move.

“I did not move to the APC because of the deep sea port, it was part of the request that he will do it,” he said.

The governor noted that the deep seaport project has now received approval, adding that the next phase involves negotiations, investment structuring, and security assessments to attract investors.

“Today you can check, the deep seaport has been approved. That’s just the beginning,” he said.

He further explained that stakeholders are now considering funding structures, including federal participation and private sector involvement through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).

Eno added that significant progress has been made in infrastructure development, including the construction of access roads leading directly to the proposed seaport site.

“So if you want to talk about the progression of meeting commitments and meeting your timelines, we have added tremendously to the realization of the deep seaport,” he stated.
