Xenophobic attacks: First set of repatriated Nigerians to return home Thursday – FG
The Federal Government has unveiled plans for the arrival of the first group of Nigerian citizens returning from South Africa following renewed xenophobic attacks in the country.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the evacuees are expected to land at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Thursday morning.
The returnees are among Nigerians who decided to leave South Africa amid concerns over their safety following the recent wave of xenophobic violence.
The Federal Government said arrangements have been put in place to receive the citizens upon arrival, as efforts continue to support Nigerians affected by the attacks.
According to the statement, the flight is expected to land at the airport at 5:00 am.
The statement added that the flight, operated by Air Peace, will depart the Oliver Thambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Wednesday night.
Recall that the Federal Government said it had concluded arrangements to repatriate willing citizens from South Africa.
The Nigerian government also said it was not happy with the South African government over the attacks.
