Ekiti Guber: INEC uploads 87% election results on IReV

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded 87.03 per cent of results from the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election on its Result Viewing Portal (IReV), as collation continues across the state.

According to data from the portal, results from 2,128 out of 2,445 polling units where elections were conducted have so far been uploaded, representing a significant progression in the collation process.

INEC also noted that 188 polling units, representing 7.69 per cent, experienced delays during the voting process, although the commission maintained that the exercise remained largely peaceful and orderly across the state.

In a post on its official X handle, the commission stated that voting commenced across all polling units by 8:30 a.m., with most units opening as scheduled.

“Voting has officially ended in most Polling Units across Ekiti State following the close of polls at 2:30 p.m,” INEC said.

It added that 2,257 polling units, representing 92.31 per cent, opened on time, while 188 units recorded minor delays but still commenced voting before 10:30 a.m.

Despite the smooth conduct in many areas, some polling units experienced delays due to glitches in the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), which affected biometric verification, particularly among elderly voters.

The technical challenges resulted in long queues in several locations, with some voters expressing frustration over repeated attempts to complete accreditation.

Meanwhile, election observer group Yiaga Africa has raised concerns over inconsistencies in electoral materials deployed for the poll.

In a statement signed by Dr. Aisha Abdullahi and Samson Itodo, Yiaga noted discrepancies between ballot papers, result sheets (Form EC8A), and INEC’s published list of candidates.

The group said Form EC8A provided space for 15 political parties, while ballot papers reportedly contained 19 parties, creating possible confusion for election officials and voters.

Yiaga Africa further observed that INEC’s final list of candidates, as updated on its website, reflected 14 participating parties, suggesting inconsistencies in election documentation following court rulings and administrative adjustments.

“These inconsistencies might create confusion during voting and collation,” the group warned, urging INEC to clarify the final list of parties and provide clear instructions to election officials on how to handle discrepancies between ballot papers and result sheets.

It also called for urgent guidance to ensure uniformity in result collation and compliance with legal and court directives.

As results continue to trickle in, attention remains focused on the transparency and credibility of the collation process across the state.
