Meta platforms suffer widespread technical failure, leaving users unable to load feeds

Thousands of users across the world reported issues accessing facebook.com, instagram.com and whatsapp.com on Tuesday evening amid an apparent service disruption affecting Meta-owned platforms.

According to user reports on outage-tracking websites, problems began around 5 p.m. Eastern Time (a bout 10 p.m. UK time), with a sharp spike in complaints relating to Facebook and Instagram. Users reported difficulties loading profiles, timelines, pages, photos, videos and individual posts.

At the peak of the disruption, more than 10,000 reports were recorded for Facebook and about 18,000 for Instagram, while some users also reported issues with WhatsApp services. Social media users quickly turned to X to confirm whether the problem was widespread.

Several users complained that feeds were not loading properly, videos would not play, and some sections of Facebook displayed error messages such as “Sorry, something went wrong.”

The outage comes less than two weeks after Meta experienced a major global disruption on June 12 that affected Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp, prompting the company to acknowledge technical problems and work on restoring services.

As of the latest checks, Meta had not publicly confirmed a new widespread outage. However, user reports and online discussions suggested that some services were experiencing intermittent disruptions. Status-monitoring services indicated that Meta’s systems remained operational overall, although isolated issues were still being reported.
